Term dates for 2016-2018 were announced in the ministerial media release of 19 July 2014.
These term dates apply to government schools. Although the Catholic and independent schools largely base their terms on the same dates you are advised to see our Catholic and Independent schools sections for help finding their precise dates.

For earlier term dates, see Past term dates.

Note that you can go to a PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION of this page [or for individual years see 2017 and 2018]
- which prints only the set of tables below the following line:

Take this into account, too...

The effective school vacation time can be slightly longer than the official term dates would indicate:
The first or last day of a school term might be used as a student free day (also called a professional learning day).
Special student free days might be needed by a new school at the beginning of the year.
Special student free days might be needed at the end of one year and at the beginning of the following year when a merger has resulted in a new school.
Building activity can cause a slight delay in the commencement of a term for an individual school.

Note that there is a PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION of the above tables.
